Question

I'm filing for my daughter. She lives in Halifax but goes to university in Ontario. What address do I use?

Her primary residence address, which is the same one she uses on her CRA account, will be used.

    Thanks for choosing TurboTax.

Which is considered primary? She is in Ottawa 8 months and Halifax 4 months, but most of her work - and tax forms -say Halifax. She doesn't have a CRA account as this is her first time filing.

A primary place of residence may be differentiated from a secondary place of residence since the terms primary and secondary are necessarily defined in relation to each other. Primary suggests something first in order of importance that is not subordinate or secondary. From this, it follows that where an individual has more than one place of residence, the place of residence that is not first in order of importance to that individual would be that individual's secondary place of residence, as it would be subordinate to the primary place of residence. We would suggest contacting CRA directly to confirm further information.
