Question

1) I filed my return, 2) I found another 1099-R, 3) I filed an amended return, 4) I discovered that the 1099-R isn't mine, now what?

If you didn't mail it yet, you can cancel the amendment.   If you started amending your tax return by accident and would like to cancel the amendment:

    1. Open your return if it’s not already open.
    2. In the left menu select Cancel amend.
    3. Select Yes, I want to cancel my amended return and Continue.

If you mailed it already, you will probably need to amend it again.  Depending on where the first amendment is in the process, you may be able to speak with someone at the IRS and have it canceled.  1-800-829-1040.
