We are retired and only receive social security and IRA distributions.  We have taxes withheld from each of these.  We have filed electronically the past two years and each time we have received a letter after 3 weeks that we need to send in copies of our SSA-1099’s and 1099-R.   Is this something that can be sent electronically by TurboTax when our return is filed?  It takes another 3 months to get our refund.  It kind of defeats the purpose of e-filing.

The info you enter in TurboTax for your 1099-R and SSA-1099 must match the copies that the IRS also has.

If you changed or deleted some info that is on the form when you entered it in TurboTax, this might trigger the IRS to ask for your copies.

There are follow-up questions after entering a 1099-R that need to be answered carefully.
