2017 State Income Tax Variance

I just received a 2017 Income Tax Billing Notice Variance in the mail today.  After looking over the line item detail page, I found that the tax service I used entered the wrong amount for my State Income Tax.  I lived and worked in both Ohio and South Carolina in 2017.  They ended up using the total State Income Tax for both states instead of just the Ohio income tax.  The corrected amount I owe for Ohio on the billing notice is what I paid in income tax for South Carolina.  What steps do I need to take to get this resolved?

The tax service you used will need to address this for you.  What "should" have happened is your income for 2017 should have been "allocated" to each separate state depending on the earnings and the dates you lived in each state.

You'll need to contact your tax service to have the state returns amended to correct the error.  Just be sure to respond to the notice you received in a timely fashion.  There should be contact information on your notice.
