I'm not sure if I should call the US Treasury Financial Agent line to cancel my scheduled payment for 4/10/22 or if I should wait, let the payment go through and then amend the return asking for a refund of what I paid in error Plus my actual refund.?  That will result in a long wait for my refund plus I'll be out what I paid in error. Would like to do this properly.  not sure if the IRS would catch me putting in the wrong amount for the W2.  same employer but I made less than I reported.  Thanks for any help!

Wait until the IRS either accepts or rejects your return.

If the IRS rejects your return, you can make the changes and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, you have to wait until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. Then you can prepare an amended tax return.

Thank you. It says it's been accepted by the IRS in my Turbo Tax just a day after I filed.

You mentioned waiting until it's fully processed and I've received my refund, however I'm not getting a refund on my initial incorrect filing, I've scheduled an automatic payment to pay what was owed.  Since I did it incorrectly I had to pay in, once I amend the return it'll show a refund like it should have originally.  Should I call and cancel my payment and then amend my return or do I let them take my money as payment, then wait to file an amendment?  So I'll be without my refund and the money I'm paying them for up to 16 weeks?  Almost like a double payment.  I should have gotten a refund but instead I paid in, once I fix the return it'll show a refund due.

Yes, you can call to cancel your payment since you will have a refund when corrected.

Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.

Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.
