Husband received SSI and didn't file for 2023, I filed separately.

He's deceased as Jan 2024,

I'm trying to do my taxes for 2024

I entered his ssi income this year for a final return and it was rejected, they want the only AGI I can't find, 2023. What or dow I get that info?

His AGI for 2023 will be 0 (zero) since he did not file a 2023 tax return.

Very sorry for your loss. If you filed separately for 2023 and your spouse did not file at all, his AGI for 2023 is zero. Your own AGI for 2023 is on line 11 of your 2023 tax return.

For the tax year that he passed away, you can choose to file a joint return.

That way, you will get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $29,200 (+ $1550 for each spouse 65 or older) which will lower the amount of income you are taxed on.

In My Info, you will need to indicate that your spouse died. When his name is in My Info, there is a screen early in the interview that asks "Do any of these apply to [name] ?’” where you will do that, and then a drop down will appear where you can enter the date he passed.

If you have qualifying dependent children you will be able to file as a qualifying surviving spouse (QSS) for the next two years after this tax return. Post back if you need further help.
