Question

Am I allow to amend?

My father tried to claim me on his 2018 tax return, and it denied him. I was making more than $6,000, and I've already sent in my taxes when this happened. My father completed his taxes without claiming me in the end. Is there a way, I could get more money back after what happened?

So on your return did you say you were being claimed on his return?  Yes you can amend to claim yourself.  I don't know if it would make a difference in your return or give you a refund.  Depends on your whole return.

But if you are under 24 and a full time student he can claim you no matter how much you make.

Amended returns can only be mailed.  It can take them 16 weeks for the IRS to process them.  And they only mail checks for refunds.   After 3 weeks you can track it here,    https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x-/wheres-my-amended-return-1

Thank you for replying. Yes, I did put down I was being claimed. During the time my father did his taxes and got denied, mine was accepted by the IRS. I didn't get my return until a couple weeks later. I'll go ahead and try to amend it and see what happens.

If you indicated on your own return that you could be claimed by someone else, then why was your father's return rejected?
