Hello,

I need to amend my 2022 Federal taxes that I HAVE NOT received yet.  I made mistakes on the original that I must correct.  I downloaded the Turbo Tax desktop addition but the amended form it calculated says I owe money.  It assumes I received  my refund.  How do I correct this?

You are supposed to wait until the original return has been fully processed before you amend, instead of rushing in to amend before the IRS has processed the original.

Track your original return to see where it is in the process:

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

    https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

    To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Thank you for that information.  But I was referring to 2022 taxes that I have not received yet.  So theres not any rushing on my part.  It has been quite some time now.

    But I appreciate your response

You still need to track your 2022 refund and see what is going on before you amend.   Is your return under review by the IRS?   Did they request that you verify your identity?    Or was the refund issued and did it go astray?    Did the IRS reduce your refund because they caught a mistake?   You need to know before you amend.
