Amend?

So my wife before we got married her dad claimed her. We’ve been married for almost a year so I claimed her this year and we filed jointly. I supported us the whole time that we’ve been together so she hasn’t had a job. But I filed and then her dad got her tax return and she only made 2200$ so her return is only 52$ I’m trying to figure out if I should file to amend that or just leave it alone?

So your wife has a W-2 showing that she made $2200 and that income was not included on your joint tax return?   You will have to amend the return you filed.  Even small amounts of income have to be included.  That W-2 was reported to the IRS with her SSN on it, so a tax return with her SSN needs to match

The 1040X becomes available later in February, so you have to wait for it.  If your return is still being processed now, it would not be a good idea to amend yet anyhow.  Sending in an amended return while they are still processing your original return could cause confusion that would delay your refund for months.

Check back later for the 1040X.   AFTER your return has been fully processed.

How do I amend my 2019 TurboTax Online return?

A 1040X cannot be e-filed.  It must be printed and mailed.  It will take about 4 months for the IRS to process an amended return.  It is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it, like UPS or certified mail, so you will know it was received.

Wait about 3 weeks from mailing and you can check the status of your amended return:
