I filed my 2020 taxes and did not claim myself because I thought my grandparents were claiming me but they are not and so now I need to amend my returns and claim myself. My grandparents received the $1400.00 stimulus check for me and I want to know if I would be entitled to the first payments totaling $1800.00 when I do the amended returns. What do I need to do to file the amended returns through turbotax?

The issue is can you be claimed as a dependent even if you are not being claimed?

If you can be claimed as a dependent there is no reason to file an amended tax return because you would not be eligible for the stimulus payments EIP1 and EIP2.

Are you under the age of 24 in 2020 and a full time student? Did you provide over one-half of your own support?

Are you age 19 or older, not a full time student, and had gross income of $4,300 or more in 2020?
