Amended return

I neglected to claim an amount paid with my request for extension. When I amend the return to include this amount, TurboTax does not recognize the revised tax paid amount, and tells me me amended return is no different than my original return.

The IRS knows that you paid an amount with your 2019 federal extension request.  They will adjust your filed 2019 tax return accordingly to reflect that payment.

There is no need to amend the return.

Thanks for the quick response. Apparently the reason TurboTax wouldn't update the amount paid with the extension is that my original request for extension and payment were not through TurboTax. I discovered I could override the amount but there were all sorts of dire warnings that I really shouldn't do it.

I assumed IRS would eventually figure it out, but also assumed it would take a very long time for them to do so. I figured the best method to get the ball rolling would be through an amended return.

I guess we'll find out.

hahahahahaha  LOLOLOLOL .... thanks for the laugh.

Just wait ... amended returns are taking 4 to 6 months to process AFTER your original return has finished processing.   This is an error they will catch and correct ... just be patient.
