Question

Amended return

I filed my federal taxes in mid March. I heard about some additional tax rule changes and reopened turbotax to find I have now over paid.

When I open an amended return I do not see a way to mark the return as overpaid or rules changed it just keeps looking for what dollar amounts changed?

How do I do this amended return?

Thank you

If the change is due to the up to $10,200 unemployment exemption, don't amend your federal income tax return. The IRS will refigure your taxes and send any refund amount directly to you.

Go here for more unemployment updates as they become available.

If you live in a state with a state income tax, see Do I need to amend my state return to update my unemployment?

I went in and allowed turbo tax to update. How would I know if the difference in my return was due to the $10,200 unemployment exemption?

Was there other tax changes that could have effected it also?

    Thank you
