I did my 2020 taxes and E filed them and sent a check that day . Then I found out I had to amended my taxes. My amended taxes say i owe $11478.00 this includes the $1762.00 plus the penalty charge . My question is do I pay the $11478.00 or deduct my first check of $1762.00. since they already have that check.

It depends. Yes, the balance owed should be reduced by the amount of taxes already paid. However, TurboTax calculates Amended returns automatically based on what details have been entered for your return.

Check Form 1040-X, Line 17. It should include the amounts already paid. To see this form, download the PDF by following these steps:

To get your 2020 Form 1040 download, from the left menu, select Tax Home. Then, follow these steps:

Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and Show.
Navigate to the option to download the PDF of your return.
