Hi I had to amend my tax return a couple of months ago & adjust my dependents. TurboTax said my federal could be efiled again but the state had to be mailed in. Well it’s been quite some time now and when I check online the status of my amended refund it says nothing is available for it. It’s been well over 3 weeks. I’m just wondering if I did something wrong?

Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return.  During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six months or more for many amended returns.  Do not expect quick results from amending.  When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check.  They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns.  You can watch for information here:

@villegl20 have patience, ALOT of patience.  Normal times for processing an amendment is 16 weeks, but it'll take a LOT longer.  IRS promised Congress it would get back to normal processing times by the end of the year.

Personally, I submitted an amendment last May for the 2020 tax year and the IRS just processed it two weeks ago - I waited FIFTY weeks.... but they got it done!

" I’m just wondering if I did something wrong?"

Did you get ACCEPTED for 1040-X with a new dependents list.?

My understanding, IRS won't let you change the dependent list and then e-File.
