Amending 2018 California taxes

I'm amending my 2018 Federal and California returns. Federal went fine.  But I had a problem with California's Schedule X.

On the amended CA540, Line 2 of Schedule X, states "Overpaid tax , if any as shown on original tax return or as previously adjusted by FTB.." I did not have an overpayment in the original tax return. But the amount that is populating line 2 is the amount of refund from the amended tax return. I had to pay in the original return and that payment showed correctly on line 5. My refund should have been the amount I paid for the 2018 tax return  plus the overpayment shown on the amended tax returns, but it is showing just the amount I paid in the original returns. I tried changing the amount to zero on the Schedule but it did not work. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

I can't explain why it is showing the way it is.  I wouldn't worry about what it says.  The California Franchise Tax Board is going use their records to determine how much your refund is, or how much you owe.  And since you are going to have to mail the amended return, you can manually change it after printing it.
