Amending a 2020 return to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit

My husband and I had a baby in mid 2020. Originally when we filed our 2020 return back in February, we heard that we qualified to get the $500 per eligible child for the 1st round of stimulus and the $600 per eligible child for the 2nd round of stimulus. We filed our baby as a dependent on our 2020 return but never got the credit for the $1,100. Now, I'm trying to amend our return to claim the Recovery Rebate credit and TurboTax is still telling us we are not eligible. I'm not sure if we should manually edit our return being TurboTax won't update it? I'm a little confused why TurboTax is telling us we don't qualify when based on the information we've read from the IRS, it says we are eligible. Anyone else in a similar situation run in to this? Appreciate any help that can be given.

Thank you!

Did you say that your child born in 2020 lived with you for the WHOLE year?  You have to say that for a newborn in order to get child-related credits and the stimulus money for the child.   And did you enter the child"s Social Security number?   When you were asked that oddly worded question about whether the child pay for over half his own support did you say NO?

Hi! Thank you for your quick response. I didn’t put the whole year. I misread that and thought it was based on the months total since they were born. I did include the social security number. I did put “no” for the “pay for more than half of their living expense.”

If you said the new born lived with you all year on the original return and then in the stimulus section you only entered what you actually got in advance stimulus payments then the $1100 would be on line 30 of the form 1040.   So if you did not see it and you qualify for it  then look at the original form 1040 page 1 ... which box is clicked after your child's name ?

Thanks for your response! I didn’t put that they had lived with me the whole year. I must have misread that when filing. I believe only the credit for other dependent box was checked so that might explain why we were having issues with it.
