If I filed my taxes can I file an amendment to claim my daughter? Her mother decided she wants me to claim her. Is filing an amendment hard? Would I also be able to get the tax credit from the stimulus check. My daughter wasn’t born till last April so I didn’t not receive a money for her from the last two stimulants checks.

Completing an amendment is easy with TurboTax.  The amendment forms will be available mid to late March.  When you sign in to your account simply click the "Amend" option and follow the prompts to complete the actions.

You will be printing, signing and mailing amended forms in.

I recommend you wait for your original return to be processed before submitting any amendments.

When completing the amendment to include your daughter, you will answer questions about an agreement with the other parent to claim the child.  If the other parent is the custodial parent (parent with whom the child spent the most nights) then you will need to get a completed form 8332 from them giving you permission to claim your daughter.

Here is a link to the form with instructions.

The stimulus questions will be asked in the "Federal Review" tab as you are completing your amendment.
