The IP PIN (Identity Protection Pin) is sent to taxpayers who have claimed that their tax identity has been stolen. It arrives in the mail in December for use in the coming year.

So my first question is "Should you even have an IP PIN?" Did you report your tax identity stolen to the IRS?

My second question is, if you received an IP PIN but have misplaced it, then please go to https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/retrieve-your-ip-pin and retrieve your IP PIN.

If you are unable to establish your identity to the IRS because you don't know answers from your credit report, then try going to the FCC website at https://www.ftc.gov/faq/consumer-protection/get-my-free-credit-report and getting a copy of your credit report.
