Question

can I amend a return filed with another accountant?

Greetings,

I used an outside accountant to file my 2021 return. This accountant marked me as single/0 instead of HoH.  I want to amend my return using turbotax and in general leave no longer use that accountant in the future. Is there a way to amend my return using TurboTax? I tried looking up the information and the only amend options are for taxes already filed through TT.

Thank you

Yes but it might be a hassle.

For the current year you can use the online version by first recreating the original return exactly as filed.  Then pay the fees and say to mail it and print it out so it think you filed it.  Then when it matches every line you can amend.  How to amend an Online return

How to amend (change or correct) a return you've already filed

Or you can buy the Desktop CD/Download program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

You will have to print and mail the amended return.  You can only efile it from the same account the original was Accepted.

just curious, do you have a qualified dependent to add to your tax return to be HOH???? what caused the confusion with the accountant????/

Did the accountant leave out a qualified dependent that you could have claimed on your tax return?   Unless you have such a dependent you cannot file as Head of Household.

If you did have a dependent on the return and you did not have any taxable income or tax liability filing as SINGLE then  switching to HOH will not get you anything more.  If so the accountant did you a favor in this case as the IRS can audit you for HOH filing status but never for Single.
