Can I amend my tax return even though I haven’t received my state tax refund? I amended my tax due to w2 for my second job

I amended my tax(haven’t mailed it yet). It shows my state return down to $0 on the screen. I already got my federal return but didn’t get state return. Did I make a mistake by amending my tax return before I get the return?

If you have your refund for your federal taxes you can mail the amended tax return.

If you haven't received the state rebate, I suggest you wait for it.

Please check the state.

It is unusual to get a new W-2 and for it to be perfect, and come to a zero balance.

However, it can happen.

Be sure to go through the state interview.

On my PIT-X form it says I’m getting refunded the amount of original refund amount plus few more $ for my 2nd w2. Should I just mail them my amendment? I went through state taxation revenue and checked my refund but it keeps saying that I have no documents with them.

the reason not to send in the state amended is that the state may catch the W-2 omission and adjust the original return accordingly. This may make filing an amended return unnecessary but it is up to the state.

on the federal make sure that the refund shows up line 18 of 1040-X.

Thank you for your answer. What should I check with the state?

You should compare the original tax return to your amended tax return.

I believe you have paper copies of both available.

Each state has a different tax return, so I can't give you line numbers.

  • Check the total tax calculation.
  • The original should be less than the amended return because you added additional income.
  • Then check the total withholding on both returns.
  • If the tax difference came to zero, The difference between the two numbers should also be the same.

Please contact us again with any additional details.
