Can I amend my tax return if I forgot to claim my new car purchase?

What is it about the car purchase that you want to claim?  Is the car used for business in some way?  Are you an independent contractor?  If you are a W-2 employee you cannot claim mileage, etc.

Or did you want to claim the sales tax----are you itemizing deductions?  Do you have enough itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction?
