Question

Can i ammend my 2017 taxes by adding my husband who did not file in 2017 to those taxes? Or does he need to file alone

If you were married in 2017 and you filed separately or he did not file at all, then yes you can amend your 2017 return to married filing joint status.  You should only amend one return - the return that you want to be the primary taxpayer but you must include all income and deductions on this one return.

If you were NOT married as of Dec 31, 2017, then you cannot amend your return to married filing joint and he must file his return on his own.
