Question

Can I change my payment schedule?

Backstory:

My wife and I had prepared our taxes and were just about ready to submit toward the beginning of April. Due to the pandemic, my wife was no longer working and there was now a tax extension to July. At the time, we were planning to pay half of what we owe and designated a payment plan for the rest owed to the IRS.

Getting to the point, when I logged into TTax to submit our taxes, there is a spot check that you can go through to ensure your numbers are still accurate. I did that, however, I do not recall seeing an option to confirm the payment plan we originally selected and I overlooked this before submission. That said, we submitted our taxes with the original payment schedule, but can no longer pay half upfront.

My question is, how to I change the payment schedule for recently submitted / accepted taxes?

Thanks in advance!

TO CANCEL A TAX PAYMENT YOU SCHEDULED

If your return was accepted, you cannot change your payment method  or payment date.  The only thing you can do is cancel the payment and then pay by a different method on your own.

  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to ask about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

How can I change for payment schedule for GA state taxes after I have completed them? I did not electronically file them. I would like to pay monthly instead of all at once.  Thanks!

@CC770 You would need to contact Georgia Department of Revenue for assistance. See this link here for more information on how to contact them.
