Can I file a form 8938 separate from my tax return which was filed online? I calculated my balance with the wrong exchange rate and erroneously e-filed without an 8938.

I originally used daily exchange rate data which calculated a maximum foreign balance under the threshold but learned while filing my FBAR, that I should have used the end of year rate which puts me over the threshold for the 8938. Can I mail in a separate 8938 or do I need to amend my tax return through TurboTax?

The instructions to form 8938 clearly state that it should only be filed as an attachment to an annual (form 1040 in this case) or amended return, so you will need to amend your tax return.
