Can I file a separate return without amending the prior years tax return done in the same year

I filed my 2018 taxes this year and now I need to file my 2019 this year also and it wont let me

Uhoh----did you use the current online program for the 2018 return you say that you filed "this year?" If you did that you made a big mistake. The online program is ONLY for a 2019 return--no other year. Did you e-file it--was it accepted? If so, when it has been fully processed you will have to amend it to delete the 2018 income you entered and then put in your 2019 income.
