Can I file back taxes for past couple years on turbotax online?

The Online product is only available for the current year filing. To file previous years you will need to use the Desktop product. Please click here to get started: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/.
Once you complete the previous years you can start your 2016 in the Online program: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/.
