Can I file my taxes and send a check to the IRS on April 18 or will I have to pay a late penalty?

If you want to e-file your tax return, but wait until tax filing deadline day of April 18, 2017 to send a check, that is fine. Just make sure to mail it in time so it is postmarked 4-18-2017.  A suggestion--send it certified mail so you get a receipt showing the IRS got it.
