Can I get a copy of my Tax return from 2008 even though the documents available only go back to 2012. What do I do?

Thank you for your response. Its hard to imagine why the IRS is asking me for info from my 2008 Taxes when they themselves do not have a copy of my original return. I threw out everything more than 7 years old, but now, of course, I am finding I should have saved all the tax returns. Oh well. Guess I will have to figure out another way.

How were you contacted by the IRS? Be aware that the IRS never calls you---so if you received a phone call about an old tax return it is a scam. The IRS would only contact you by mail. Did you get a letter from the IRS?
