If you are an employee then you cannot deduct any employee business expenses on a federal tax return.

You can receive up to $250 adjustment to income if you are an educator on a federal tax return.

For the Teacher (Educator) deduction -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Employment Expenses
  • On Teacher (Educator) Expenses, click on the start or update button

Or enter teacher deduction in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to teacher deduction
