Question

Can I just file with my normal accountant after return was rejected?

My return was rejected due to not entering my 1095-A information. I am not a dependent but on my parent's health insurance. Turbo Tax is telling me I owe a crazy amount of money once I enter their 1095-A information, and I can't figure out how to fix this.

Can I just file with my normal accountant? When I try to clear and restart, Turbo Tax says I can't.

    Please clarify your question.

    • Are you on your parents health insurance, or are you on the MarketPlace plan?
    • It should not be both!

Please contact us again to provide some additional details.

The reason you are owing money is due to the premium tax credit.  When you entered this 1095-A, you should select shared policy with another tax payer.  After you say that, then you can allocate an any amount between 0% and 100%.  If your parents allocated 100% then you would claim 0%.  You will just need to talk to your parents and ask them how much they are claiming.

Many times parents claim the entire amount when they pay for it. If your parents claim 100%, then you will not owe anything.

Yes, you can file with your normal accountant after your return was rejected.
