Question

Can I make a manual adjustment to the TurboTax state return to correct an apparent program error before filing my return?

This year TurboTax Premium failed to subtract our Social Security payments which are non-taxable in our state (GA) in calculating taxable income. This is a significant issue.

Are you age 62 or older?  If not, the SS taxable amount from the federal tax return is taxable on the Georgia return and included on the Georgia Form 500 Line 8.

If you are age 62 or older and under the age of 65 then you have a Retirement Income Exclusion of $35,000

If you are age 65 or older then the Retirement Income Exclusion is $65,000

The exclusions amounts, if you are eligible, are entered on the Georgia Schedule 1.
