Can I report my 2014 40K carryover loss on 2017 return after skipping 2015 & 2016 when I didn't have any gain or losses?

On my 2014 tax return, I reported 40K carryover loss from previous years. For 2015 & 2016, I didn't have any gain or losses so I forgot to report carryover losses. I didn't have gain or loss in 2017. Should I report the carryover loss (from my 2014 tax return) on 2017 return? How? Just use the 2014 loss figures? Thanks!

No, you should amend your 2015 and 2016 returns to take losses in those years.  In 2017 if you choose to file this one before amending the earlier ones, you would have to enter a carryover loss minus the $6,000 you  could have taken in those two prior years.
