Question

Can't pay taxes with debit/credit card

Hello,

I tried filing my taxes with Turbotax and I am told now at the very end my only three options to pay are some Turbotax affiliated debit card (which doesn't even sound helpful right now considering I'm trying to PAY my taxes, not get money back), a paper check, or to file for a payment plan. Supposedly "my filing choices" mean I "cannot pay with my debit/credit" card. This makes no sense to me, because I've paid with my debit and credit card before, twice, and I'm not really doing much different this year, either.

I think maybe you misunderstood something.

You say you OWE tax and need to pay?

If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

Are you e-filing or paper filing? You won't see a credit/debit card payment option in TurboTax if you owe IRS taxes and are paper-filing, there is a workaround for it.

    Please follow the instructions below.

Can I use a credit or debit card to pay the IRS even...
