Can the irs take my refund back after they deposited it

Best answer by MaryK1

No, the IRS cannot go into your bank account and remove the money from your bank account unless they have a levy.  However, if an error was made (either on your part or theirs) they can request that you return any money.

There was a levy and it was taken out, my state gave my refund to them as well, I got double dipped so to speak, I just checked IRS refund status and on bottom left it said, adjusted refund $0.00, I’m just confused I guess.

No , once deposited it is yours.  The only thing that can happen is an offset.  See information below on offset: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4143297

You will need to contact the IRS about your refund.  However, you can check whether you have outstanding debts that would affect your tax refund.

To determine whether an offset will occur on a debt owed (other than federal tax), contact BFS's TOP call center at 800-304-3107 (800-877-8339 for TTY/TDD help).
