Question

Can we move our payment date from April 15th to July 15th? All answer say no, but maybe it's not updated yet?

I have already filed my return and scheduled ACH payment on 4/15. I am thinking about calling the IRS to cancel my payment per here:

And then send them the check by 7/15.

Do people think that'll work?

"To cancel/ reschedule a federal tax payment: Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling." For more info, visit here.

I just did this.  It's super easy to cancel your payment through the automated phone line.  You don't even have to wait in a phone queue to talk to a person.  Then you can reschedule directly on the IRS payment website for July 15.

You can go to the IRS website here: Pay Taxes by Electronic Funds Withdrawal

The Treasury and IRS also announced the deferment of federal tax payments, interest free and penalty free, for 90 days, until July 15. Individuals and self-employed taxpayers can defer up to $1 million for tax year 2019 federal tax payments. This deferment also applies to tax year 2020 estimated tax payments previously due on April,15, 2020. Corporations can defer up to $10 million in federal payments.
