my (now married this past january so i filed single last year) wife and i had a son last year. she told me he had medicaid when he was born through out the rest of the year. i had failed to mention that he did on my turbo tax form. would i be penalized or slammed from the irs due to this not being mentioned on my return or would they hold it from me since i made a mistake on that behalf?

let's step back a little.....

1) can you please state what you think you specifically did incorrectly using TT to complete your taxes with respect to medicaid on your son.

2) did you receive a form that you failed to input into Turbo Tax? if so, what form number?

3) what there  question asked in TT that you believe you would now answer differently with this new knowledge from your wife? if so, what question was that? and how would you now answer.

a day or two after he was born, she contacted CO medicaid office and had them cover him. as of Jan 31st, i put down that he was not covered. a mistake i had made, as i hadn't been told about it until the other day. if i had the opportunity to correct it or contact the local IRS office here, i would tell them that he was covered until we moved to a different state. i'm afraid i may get penalized over it and be forced to pay and/or whatnot. this is my first child and i'm the only one claiming him especially under head of household since she was out of work for half the year.

oh, so you are concerned about how you reported his medical coverage?????? You stated that he had no medical coverage for the year when in fact he did?

If that is what you are concerned about, why is the subject line 'child tax'?
