Do I have to amend my tax return if I used the standard deduction and did not declare gambling winnings?

I did not have enough deductions to itemize so I used the standard deduction but did not see where to put in info about gambling winnings. I sent for my refund and have received it. Do I have to amend my taxes to account for around $400 dollars I think I owe for gambling winnings even though L lost  more than I won.

Yes, gambling winning will have to be reported under other income and you will have to amend your return. Gambling losses can only be deducted with the Itemized Deduction up to the gambling winnings. Please follow these instructions to enter your winnings:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click "Take Me To My Return"
  3. Click "Federal" from the left side of your screen
  4. Scroll down to “Less Common Income” and click “Show more
  5. Scroll down to “Gambling Winnings” and click "Start
  6. Turbo Tax will walk you through entering the prize winnings.

The IRS will only accept amended returns via mail.

The 1040X form for 2018 isn’t ready. Please, keep checking the following information on how to amend your return; it will be updated once the 2018 form is released:
