Massachusetts does not allow a deduction for IRA contributions.

  • You must calculate the amount of all Traditional IRA contributions while in the state.
  • Contributions made in other states do not count.
  • You will have to go to the Massachusetts interview
  • Select State Taxes.
  1. Your State return
  2. Continue through the interview.
  3. If you have an IRA distribution a question will come up:
  4. Taxable IRA/Keogh Distributions
  5. There is a place to enter Other Contributions Previously Taxed by Massachusetts.
  6. Enter the total amount of all of your original contributions.
  7. The next entry is Total Distributions received in Previously Years: Enter that number for all Massachusetts distributions.
