Do I need to amend my return if I received a corrected form 1098 and the interest amount paid on the corrected form is less than what was originally sent?

Yes, you need to amend your return if you are using itemized deductions or if your interest amount was reported as a deduction anywhere on your return.  This would include claiming a home office expense or claiming rental income for renting part of your home.  

 

You would also need to amend your return if the interest is being reported for a rental property instead of your primary residence.
