Does the IRS have to accept your taxes before it's on the Where's my Refund site?

The status won't say received unless you are ACCEPTED.

The status usually updates quickly.

No information will show up on the IRS refund site until after your return has been accepted.  And....if you are asking about 2023----the IRS is not accepting returns yet.  They will not begin to accept 2023 e-files until later in January.  So...even if you e-file now, you will not see any information for weeks.

The IRS is not scheduled to open e-filing until January 24.  After that, if your e-filed return is accepted, it can take up to 3 business days for the status to change on the "Where's my refund" site.
