e-file identity confirmation failure for deceased person

My federal and state joint return e-files have failed due to inability to confirm identity of my spouse by IRS.  Turbotax, in trying to fix the problem, is asking for AGI of the deceased spouse, but giving the correct AGI off the 2018 return does not solve anything.  I'm confused why it is asking for the AGI of only the deceased spouse since it was a joint filing in 2018.  Also confused why confirming the identity of a deceased person (died in 2019) has any relevance at all.

The reason is generally, if enough time has passed for the Social Security Administration to have done so, the social security number is locked and the return must be sent via regular mail.

Thanks, we are filing by mail instead of e-filing.  It would seem that Intuit knows that e-file is not an option for deceased individuals yet accepted my state e-file payment and let me fail.  How about a better up front guidance, and how about a refund after the fact???
