E-file tax return after getting spouse's ITIN

I mailed my tax return(married filing jointly) alongside my wife's ITIN application. I just got my wife's ITIN but I have not got my tax refund yet. Can I go back and amend by tax return on turbotax and e-file both my federal and state tax with my wife's ITIN number ? Or should I wait for the IRS to complete my tax return and send my documents back ? Please advise.

NOOOOOO .... the return you sent originally was sent to the IRS already when the ITIN was issued so you should NOT try to efile it now as this can delay things for months.

If you need to file a state return you can put the ITIN in the MY INFO section so you can complete the state interview however the state return MUST also be mailed in since the federal was mailed.
