Banking information for refund is wrong

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.

If you transferred your info from last year's return, TurboTax may prompt you to deposit your tax refund into the same account you used last year. You can easily edit the account info you wish to transfer your money into before you file. Please click How do I change my transferred direct deposit information? to learn more.

You could receive it within 1-5 business days so keep an eye out for it. Most financial institutions take time to receive refunds from the IRS. You can see more information on this topic here: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/refund-timing.

If it has been longer than 5 days, check with your bank, since banks vary in how and when they credit the funds.

Please review the article below to track your refund if you chose Refund Processing.

So how long do I wait for a paper check in the mail?

March 7, 2021

If your refund was rejected by the bank, it can take 4-6 weeks for you to receive a paper check in the mail once the funds are returned to the IRS.

@keithace12 Did you try to enter an account number here?   This is the public user forum which can be seen by anyone.  Luckily for you the filter removed the information your posted.  Do not post your personal information in this public web site.   Your banking information cannot be changed after you file your tax return.

Did you already e-file?  If you did NOT e-file you can go to the FILE section and change how you want to receive your refund.  If you want direct deposit you need the routing number and your own account number.

You cannot  change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted.

@Hatefed   It's too late to change it.   If the bank rejects your deposit the IRS will mail a check to the address on your return.
