I e-filed my 2019 federal return on March 15th, 2020 and the status is still being reported as Pending. How long is it taking the IRS to accept/reject returns right now?

It can normally take anywhere from a few hours to 3 weeks for a return to get accepted. With the new tax laws and updates, the IRS is taking every precaution to ensure each tax return is process correctly and fully. There's no way to know when the IRS will update your status. Until the IRS starts processing your tax return on their own, you may not find record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated accordingly. Continue checking the Where’s My Federal Refund?  tool for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight.

Shortly after I posted my message, the IRS rejected my return indicating a calculation error found in form 8615 line 7. According to Turbo Tax, now I have to wait for a software update to correct the error before re-submitting my return.
