Federal Return Payment correcting bank account information

E-filed federal income tax return and provided for payment of balance due by debit from bank account but entered incorrect information.  The return was accepted, but the payment will undoubtedly not go through according to the bank.  Can this be corrected by amendment, or do I wait for IRS to reject it?  Would it make sense to make payment using IRS webpage and assume the payment won't go through based on representations made by the Bank.  I fear that it will take too long for the IRS to respond and penalties will accrue.

No, you should not amend your return for incorrect payment information.

Yes, you should make the payment on the IRS webpage since your bank confirmed your payment would not go through.
