Filed federal return for $5.3k on 2/13 finally refunded 3/31. Then filed amended return for $9.5k total on 3/29 ( $4.2k additional owed) How long until $4.2k refund?

Seems to have taken 6-weeks for the first refund. Any chance the 2nd one will be faster, are they still backlogged?

The IRS is severely backlogged. Amended returns "normally" take about four months to be processed. They take longer now, so you will be waiting awhile for that refund from your amended return. They do not make a direct deposit for a refund when you amend. The IRS mails a check to the address on your tax return.

Thanks for the heads up on the mailing, not direct deposit. I'll keep and eye on the mail before I move to Texas in the fall. Hope they get it done by then.
