On May 10, 2021, we completed and electronically submitted my federal return, which still reads PENDING and for which the 261.00 owed has not been charged. The filing deadline is 5/17/21. What's the delay?

The IRS doesn't share your information with us once you send in your return. Pending simply means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.

This year, many taxpayers returns are being delayed due to a processing backlog created by the pandemic, which shut down the IRS for a time.
