First time filing taxes

Hello! This is my girlfriends first year filing taxes at age 36. She has never had a job before and her income has never been enough to require her to file taxes. She just tried filing and her return was rejected saying her AGI doesn't match. What does she do?

If she did file a 2023 tax return then her 2023 AGI is 0 (zero).  Enter the 0 for the 2023 AGI and e-file the 2024 tax return again.

She can try checking the box that says she did not file a 2023 tax return; she can try using zero as her 2023 AGI, or she can print, sign and mail her tax return instead of e-filing.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
