Former Employer Entered Code DD in Code D on my W2 in Box 12 - Need to Amend?

Hello, my former employer made a mistake and put the amount that was supposed to be for Box 12 Code DD into Code D on my 2020 W-2.  I already went ahead and submitted my tax return.  Do I need to amend my tax return as a result of their mistake?

Any help would be appreciated.

You should correct this information on your tax return, as well as request that your employer send you a corrected copy of your W-2.

Now, once you submit your tax return, you'll have to wait until the IRS processes and either accepts or rejects it before you can make any changes.

If rejected, you can simply revisit your return and correct the information (as well as fix whatever caused the rejection): How do I fix a rejected return?

If accepted, you will need to amend your tax return: How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed
