When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.

Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.

You should be aware that the IRS has not processed mailed returns for many weeks. Returns are stacked in piles in trailers near regional centers waiting to be opened and processed by the IRS. The IRS has not said when processing of mailed returns will get back to normal.

Efiled returns are being processed. If there is any way possible for your to efile your return, you should efile it.
